Xerxes (519-465 BC) was the ruler of the Empire of Persia from 485. He was the son of Darius and the grandson of Cyrus. He was married to Queen Esther and his chief adviser was Mordecai, Esther’s father.
Xerxes fought against Leonidas at Thermopylae as part of an unsuccessful invasion of Greece.
